Fundraising
Why we need your donations
Cost of the Service
All our services are provided free of charge thanks to the generosity of the people of Pembrokeshire. As the service expands and is called upon more and more, the cost inevitably rises. The expenditure to maintain the existing service is over £600,000 a year.
Income
The Pembrokeshire Local Health Board contributes around 15% towards our overall income, and Pembrokeshire County Council provides an annual sum of just over £6,000. The majority of our income has to come through donations, fundraising, house to house collections and our charity shops.
We rely on volunteers to run the shops and to help organise fundraising events on our behalf and we very much appreciate their commitment and effort. The foundation always needs more fundraisers.
How to make a donation to the Paul Sartori Foundation
Donating Online
Donations are greatly appreciated, they make a huge difference to our work
.
To make a donation we have made it quicker and easier for you by creating a link to www.justgiving.com
This is a secure site that allows you to make a donation to the Paul Sartori Foundation using credit or debit cards. Additionally, the tax credit on your donation is automatically recliamed, giving us an extra 28p for every £1 donated.
Donating Offline
Please contact us directly via this website or by post, telephone or fax - details are available on the contact us page or by printing off a Printable Donation Form
In addition to your donation if you are a taxpayer we are able to obtain a further 28p in each £1 you donate under gift the Gift Aid Tax Relief Scheme. This scheme was launched in April 2000 to enable charities to maximise benefits from their donations. If you are unsure whether your donations qualify for Gift Aid tax relief, ask the charity. Or ask your local tax office for a leaflet IR 113 Gift Aid.
If you wish to help using this way please complete Section 2 (Gift Aid Declaration) on the Donation Form.
Will Power
A gift in your will can make a real difference to the Paul Sartori Foundation. Home hospice care is not about buildings – it is about people, caring, understanding, supporting and encouraging each other. It is also about offering the reassurance of skilled medical and nursing care, whilst still recognising everyone as an individual and as a special person. It is about caring for patients and their families at what is a very difficult time.
To provide such a service is costly – more than £600,000 of which over 80% must be raised from the local community every year. Whilst this may seem expensive, the care we offer is priceless.

In Lieu of Flowers
The phrase in ‘lieu of flowers’ does not mean that there will be no flowers at a funeral. Rather, it means that the family have decided to limit floral tributes to immediate family only and others, if they wish, are invited to make a donation to charity.
Asking your family and friends to make donations to Paul Sartori instead of sending flowers is a wonderful way to make a difference to local people who have terminal illness and who are supported by our ‘Hospice at Home’ service which serves Pembrokeshire.
We appreciate that these donations are made at difficult times and we want the process to be as simple as possible. Therefore, if you have lost a loved one and would like donations sent to the Paul Sartori Foundation, please ask us for a supply of our donation envelopes. These are suitable to be placed on the pews at a church or crematorium. Your funeral director will be pleased to advise you.

Charity Shops
Two thirds of our funds come through donations fundraising, street collections, house to house
collections and our Charity Shops. We rely on volunteers to run the shops and to help organise fundraising events.
Paul Sartori Foundation has 4 shops in the Pembrokeshire area with plans to open more. These shops exist to generate funds for the financial running of the Hospice and to project a positive and professional image of the organisation. The shops sell second hand goods that are donated by the public.
Currently the shops have an annual turnover in excess of £100.000. This figure accounts for approximately 20% of the income required to run the hospice. Everyone who works in the shops including the supervisors are volunteers. There are currently about 90 volunteers working in the shops but we are always searching fo more people to help support this growing business. If you feel you could help by donating some of your time then either go and see the supervisor of your local shop or phone 01437 763223 for more information.

Tenby Rowers take on Charity Challenge
Rowers from Tenby Sea Rowing Club took part in one of the world's toughest rowing races to raise funds for the Paul Sartori Foundation. The Celtic Challenge, which took place in May 2008, is a huge test of endurance with teams rowing 90 nautical miles from Arklow in Ireland to Aberystwyth on the Welsh Coast.
After a delayed start, the race began on Sunday 4th May with teams advised to have 2 baling buckets in their boats due to rough sea conditions. Later that day, conditions worsened rather than improved as forecast with the wind reaching a fresh Force 5. With 40 miles covered, most of the team were suffering from sea sickness (developing a special 'row and throw' technique) and transfers to and from the Longboat were becoming dangerous. With night falling, the captain of the teams support boat advised them to retire on safety grounds.
Nick Tebbutt, team captain, said ' We're all hugely disappointed that this happened after 6 months of training. However, the good news is that our sponsors have continued to be extremely generous and have raise a fantastic £3,525 Paul Sartori Foundation.'
The team received very generous support from Tenby Town Council, Wilkinson Stores, Tenby House Hotel, Milford Haven Port Authority and Prince's Gate Water.

Fundraising tips-Getting started!
Inspiration and enthusiasm will get you off to a flying start in your fundraising campaign! All your efforts wilI seem that much easier if you are inspired by the cause that you are raising funds for and enthusiastic about the event you are planning. On a more practical note, make sure that you have a plan of the basic things that you should do in order to maximise the fundraising potential of your efforts.
Things to consider............
- Set yourself a fundraising target. A target will help to motivate you and your sponsors. If possible relate the sum that you intend to raise to specific services provided by the Paul Sartori Foundation. This helps to link your future efforts with work being undertaken by the charity today.
- If you are employed, why not check if your employer is prepared to be one of your more generous sponsors or even match the sum of money that you raise.
- Publicity is the oxygen of fundraising so make sure everyone possible knows what you are doing. From your company, church, club to friends and relatives, leave no one out.
- Make sure that the Paul Sartori Foundation knows what your plans are. We will publicise your efforts on our website and through our media contacts.
- When people come to sponsor you, they will normally take their lead from the sponsorships you have already recieived. Consequently, it pays to make sure that your first few sponsors are generous ones.
- If you are working as a group to raise money the make sure everyone has a responsibility, from publicity to planning. This will help to pull you together as a team and will also make the most of your collective skills.
Choosing an activity
Fundraising should be fun, as this attracts supporters and participants. If you would like to raise funds but are struggling to find an inspiring and enjoyable fundraising idea, then here are just some suggestions to fire your imagination :
Set up an on-line fundraising page!
We recommend that all fundraisers set up an on-line donations page. The advantages of such a page are that it allows people to donate securely using credit and debit cards, the tax credit is automatically reclaimed and it is easy for distant friends and family to support you!
